DIP DYE

DIP DYE is a collaboration with textile designers Sundin/Persson.

It is a project about design without given hierarchies. Instead of the regular process where the furniture is designed and later fitted with a random fabric our idea was to let furniture bare the imprint of the fabric and vice versa.

The fabric is folded and squeezed between the legs which are hold together with zip ties. All of the components involved in the dying process are seen in the finished product including the marks from the zip ties. The result depends on the type of wood, fabric and color and every example made is unique.

DIP DYE was exhibited at the Wood Punk exhibition hosted by Trend Gruppen at Hotel Scandic Anglais during the Stockholm Furniture Fair 2013.

Made from off-cuts and random materials found in the workshop in combination with standard electrical components the NP33 cabinets / lamps are sculptures with or without a function. Some of them could be used as shelf or cabinet and it is up to the customer to decide how to use it.

We have been invited by TTC and South African organisation Furntech to participate in a exchange project with South African designers and cabinetmakers. The project is funded by Sida and the South African State. The first part of the project took place in Cape Town, SA. The second part will take place in Tibro, SE this autumn. The result will be exhibited at the Stockholm Furniture Fair 2013.

Karlsson & Björk at Flux Shop

During the Stockholm Design week Karlsson & Björk will show prototypes of a new series of chairs called WIP at Flux shop, tjärhovsgatan 14.

Inspired by post modernism and outdoor fashion the chairs shows something other than what we are used to when thinking of wooden chairs. Functional materials and upholstered details are combined with classic carpentry. All chairs are possible to buy as unique examples but also prototypes looking for a producer!

At the same time the shop will be filled with their own Twig lamps and hooks and their Ten to one project, ten signed tables and benches all made out of one reused dining table.

Karlsson & Björk is run by designers Mattias Karlsson and Erik Bjork. From the studio in Stockholm they work with projects in the field of design, interior and art. They produce limited series and unique pieces as well as design for producing companies.

Opening Wednesday February 8, kl 19.00.

Pendo is the answer to the growing need of bicycle storage inside the apartment.

Bicycle storage solutions are in general made to store the bicycle in the garage during the winter.

We wanted to make a shelf which looks good with and without the bike on. Without any hooks, straps etc making it easy to hang up and lift of your bike multiple times a day.

The shelf also gives a dedicated space for your helmet, bicycle lock, gloves etc.

Hanging lamps based on the Twig concept. A E27 light bulb fitting with a textile cord are held onto the twig using heat shrink tubing.

The lamps as well as new twig hooks were made for Flux shop in Stockholm.

The brief was to create a small and affordable dining chair for cafes and restaurants. Gemla wanted a chair with an apparent similarity to their classic bentwood chairs but with modern updated look. The solution was Bas, all of the components is easy to recognize from it´s predecessors but redrawn and updated. The chair was made slightly smaller than normal to be easier to fit into small spaces.

HELLA

The aim was to create a large cosy armchair which welcomes you to sit down for a cup of coffee and a good book. The collection are inspired by classic Windsor furniture but with a modern approach as well as a twist with a thick leather woven into the wooden sticks replacing the traditional back plate. The collection consists of a dining chair, a low armchair and a hanging lamp with a shade of leather.

The story of how one table turned in to ten. Recycled material from an old pine kitchen table. The owner was tired of it and we needed material. One table turned into ten. The end of the legs are dipped in rubber.

The aim with Erik´s work with UNI was to create a lamp with multiple fields of application. The flexible arm makes it possible to depending on the light source use it as a up light, spot light or as a general luminaire.

The surface treatment consists of a special rubber coating commonly used in the car industry which makes it possible to take Uni with you out in the garden or the garage.

In natural birch with leather seat. Dining and easy chair with inspiration from Egyptian furniture constructions. A play with construction, contrast, light and shadows.

The chair was chosen out of 1058 entries for the Bronze leaf in the IFDA international design competition in Japan 2008.
